  • In Obon my parents burn stalks of hemp to welcome and send back the spirits
    of the ancestors in the garden of their house every year.
    That’s a traditional event called “Mukaebi”and “Okuribi” in Japanese.
    I feel like it’s a sacred and heartwarming event that reminds us of our ancestors.

  • Duaring every Obon , I visit the grave of my ancestors and put flower, fruits, vegetables, sweets on the Buddhist altar in my house and pray to give thanks to my ancestors. But this year was speacial, because I attended the my wife’s mother’s Hatsubon ceremony and pray with my relatives at my wife’s father’s house.
