Happy New Year!

How was your New Year holidays?

We have New Year holidays for the first three days of January. During the holidays, people eat special food called osechi-ryori with family and visit Shinto shrines to pray for the health and well-being of their family members.

What is Osechi-ryori?

It is eaten during the New Year holidays. It is in beautiful square boxes and contains dried Japanese anchovies(ごまめ), herring roe (数の子), cooked kombu seaweed, cooked shrimps and so on.

初詣は、the first temple or shrine visit of the New Year です。お雑煮は、rice cakes boiled with vegetablesです。

Good luck!
