Sagamihara Chuo-ku: Lawson Convenience Store

Lawson Convenience Store, Sagamihara Chuo-ku is located across the street from Smith’s School of English and is just 3 minutes from JR Sagamihara Station. Why would I write about Lawson Convenience Store in Sagamihara? Mostly because it is so convenient to my English school and the goods and services offered are fantastic.

One could say that I am a “regular” at Lawson, Sagamihara. I drop by Lawson at least 3 or 4 times a week at different hours, depending on what I want or need to do. Lawson provides me the convenience of paying my bills quickly. That is usually done in the morning, once or twice a month. If I need some quick cash to pay those bills, I can use the Lawson ATM first.

I am not a fan of sweet-tasting food, but my English students tell me that Lawson has the best dessert foods of any convenience store in Sagamihara and Japan. Lawson’s puddings in particular are said to be delicious.

I mostly go there to buy water so that I can maintain a steady supply for my English school. Lawson also supplies the best egg salad sandwich I have ever tasted, so I buy that often.

My English school needs to be continually supplied with pens, paper, and other stationary goods. Lawson has them all. Even if I need a new pair of socks, I can buy a pair of socks! Lawson has everything!

The employees at Lawson Sagamihara are always very professional, kind, and efficient. I often try to use a little bit of English with them, in hopes that they will respond in English as well. A simple “hello,” “no thank you,” “thank you,” “yes please,” etc. The manager has been working there since I opened my English school in Sagamihara. He is always very receptive to my English and occasionally responds with “no problem,” “okay,” “just a moment,” and always a smile.

This is just one of the simple, everyday parts of my daily life of living in Sagamihara and teaching at Smith’s School of English. It’s comforting to know that I have a Lawson Convenience Store just across the street from my English school. Convenience stores play a huge part in the uniqueness of Japan because they are so clean, well organized, and efficient.
