いくつか挙げると、

・築地山加（やまか）-相模原駅の近くで素晴らしい刺身、寿司など海鮮や野菜の料理を提供しています。多くの相模原校生徒様が街で一番だと言います。

・磯丸水産-スミス英会話相模原校からすぐ。魚介類をテーブルで客が焼くというユニークなお店です。

しかし、今回はスミス英会話相模原校から歩いてたった5分の場所にある“や台ずし“についてご紹介します。

Sushi and Seafood in Sagamihara With Smith’s School of English Students

Sushi and seafood in Sagamihara near Smith’s School of English are really easy to find.

To name a few places, there is

 Kakujo Gyorui- the number one seafood store located in Minami Hashimoto, Sagamihara. Much of the seafood sold there is from the Japan Sea. It is always crowded because of its huge selection and reasonable prices.

Tsukiji Yamaka near Sagamihara Station serves excellent sashimi, sushi, and vegetable dishes. Many of my English students tell me that it is the best in town.

 Isomaru Suisan, just steps from my English school, is unique in that much of the seafood is grilled at the table by the patrons.

But I’d like to write specifically about Yataizushi Restaurant; only a 5 minute walk from Smith’s School of English, Sagamihara.

I go to Yataizushi with friends, one or two of my English students, or by myself at least once a month. This sushi and seafood restaurant in Sagamihara is not expensive, yet it serves top-quality dishes. Like “Torichu Sagami No Tei, the chefs are not young, which to me is an indicator that they are well experienced and serve the finest dishes with attention to detail. Yataizushi is open every day at 3:00pm, and 12:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Recently I met one of my English students there for a late lunch on a Sunday.

Yataizushi Restaurant is not crowded early in the day. We sat down at the counter so that we could watch the seafood experts in action. I always try to sit at the counter for that very reason. It is a learning experience for me. The beauty of eating at seafood restaurants like this in Sagamihara and all over Japan is that you can take your time and order food slowly while enjoying a drink and chatting, or reading a book which I sometimes do. My English student and I wound up staying for nearly three hours. We both enjoyed having lots of English conversation, and I believe she learned a lot.

I asked her many times “what do you call this in English?” This “English vocabulary lesson” included the words “scallop, fatty tuna, seared salmon, grilled mackerel, wooden chopsticks, and the differences between the words fresh, raw, rare, seared, and grilled.” We had all this English language learning fun while immersing ourselves in a perfect seafood restaurant here in Sagamihara. What better atmosphere is there to help my English students learn the vocabulary and talk about seafood! Outside of the classroom!

I enjoy going out to restaurants in Sagamihara with my English students. It is something I have done for a long time and will continue doing. This particular English student has studied at Smith’s School of English for about 5 years now. Many of my English students have been here a lot longer, but I know that anyone who continues English study with me for over 3 years is worth having some English conversation with outside of my classroom. I wonder who will be next?
