Keeping things simple is something that I like about working with Smith’s School of English in Sagamihara. Part of keeping things simple is the selection of courses available to our English students. Smith’s School of English offers 3 main courses and a few others just in case our students are interested. Our 3 main courses are all the same in regards to curriculum. The difference is offering the most convenient lesson schedule for our students. The main similarity between all courses is that the student can study on a consistent basis, that is, 4 lessons per month.

Four lessons every month makes things easy for our English students and teachers. As teachers, it is easy to hone in on student needs and plan the next lesson. Other schools in Japan allow their students to study every day if they want to. The cost of that is high for the students, lesson planning for the teacher becomes difficult, and not much improvement is made. The reason? Overload. Too much to input to the brain at one time. 

One weekly lesson is simple and perfect. English students develop the habit of weekly lessons, and the habit of home study at their own pace. Consistency in practicing English conversation is something we offer and know to be effective. Overloading English students often has a negative effect. It becomes a burden, and often results in English students giving up, because it is too much at too fast of a pace. Our weekly lessons are meant to keep the stress down on both English students and teachers. We strike a great balance here at Smith’s School of English. It’s as close to perfect as it can be.
