初心者も安心！スミス英会話相模原校

相模原市には英会話教室が数多くあり；大半は子供用英会話に特化しています。多くの子供たちはレッスンをする準備ができていて緊張しません。しかし、スミス英会話相模原校では生徒様の層が大人の方と若い生徒様でも高校生が主です。彼らの多くは英会話レッスンの初日、少し緊張してクラスへやってきます。緊張するのはとても自然なことです。英会話講師として、初めて英会話レッスンを体験する生徒様のお手伝いをとても楽しんでいます。生徒様が落ち着いて、リラックスしながら英会話を楽しむのを手伝うのも私の仕事の1つです、初日のレッスンは特に。“英語初心者”のレッスンが大好きです！

スミス英会話相模原校には英会話初心者の生徒様もいらっしゃいます。中学校の勉強を含め日本には英語教育のシステムがあるため、生徒様はみんな英語の知識がある状態でスミス英会話へ入会されます。そのため、本当の“英語初心者”ではありません。英会話の初心者なだけです。

English Conversation School in Sagamihara: Smith’s School of English “ Beginners” Can Relax!

English conversation schools in Sagamihara are plentiful; most of them specializing in teaching children. Kids are kids, usually ready to go and not nervous. However, at Smith’s School of English Sagamihara, the English student base is full of adults and younger learners in Senior High School. Most of them are a bit nervous when they show up for their first lesson. It is very natural to feel this way. As an English teacher, I really enjoy helping them through their first English conversation lesson experience. Part of my job is helping them settle in, relax, and enjoy speaking English, particularly during their first lesson. “Beginners” are my favorite!

We have quite a few beginner English conversation students here at Smith’s School of English Sagamihara. All of them join this English school with a good knowledge of English because the Japanese educational system includes English study during their Junior and Senior High School years. So, they are really not “beginners” with English. They are beginners with English conversation.

So why are “beginners” my favorite? These new Sagamihara English conversation learners are usually nervous in the first class, but they soon realize that they can speak some English and can keep up with other students in the class. Every student is encouraged to study English and improve at their own pace, so there is no pressure. Watching that transition from nervousness to relaxation during their first few classes gives me great satisfaction. Confidence in English conversation builds, students get to know each other better, and realize that I am not really an English teacher. I am a coach; a friendly coach that cares about them and their progress. And they soon realize there is no need to be nervous.

This week (May 2025) Smith’s School of English welcomed two new “beginner” English conversation students to my English classroom in Sagamihara. Both of them were of course a bit nervous in the beginning. How nice it was to see them leave with a smile on their faces. It was a look that said “I can do this.” I really like to see that relief on their faces. It is a reward to me, knowing that I can help them realize that they have nothing to fear, and that they can do it.

I’m going to keep doing it too. I like it. I love it. I’m not sure if my current  English students here in Sagamihara know why I like my job. But I’m sure that they can see that I enjoy it.
