私はレス、スミス英会話生駒校のオーナー講師です。1998年から生駒市で英語を教えています。今日は、生駒校の土曜日の英会話レッスンについてお話ししたいと思います。

スミス英会話生駒校で長年教えてきて、こんな声をよく聞きます。「英語を習いたいけど、平日は忙しい」また、お子さんを通わせたい保護者からも「子どものクラブスケジュールが毎週変わるから、平日同じ曜日に通わせることができない」と聞きます。

その気持ちはよく分かります。平日の夜は、残業、夕食、宿題など、多くの方にとって一番忙しい時間帯です。だからこそ、土曜日のレッスンを用意しています。生徒様は平日仕事の後よりも、土曜日の方が落ち着いて来られる方が多いんです。

土曜日のレッスンには、平日とは少し違う空気があります。仕事の後や学校の後に急いで駆けつける生徒様が少なく、教室全体がゆっくりしています。

何より、土曜日はグループレッスンの予約が埋まりやすいです。グループレッスンには特にいい環境になります。最大３名で行うグループレッスンにおいて、予約が満席だと会話のキャッチボールも自然に生まれやすくなります。同じ理由で、家族で英語を学ぶ方にも土曜日はぴったりです。平日は、送り迎えだけで精一杯というご家庭も多いんですよね。土曜日なら、家族みんなでレッスンに来て、帰りに一緒にお昼を食べる、ということもできます。

正直なところ、これが土曜日レッスンの好きなところのひとつです。忙しい平日に詰め込まれる予定のひとつではなくて、英会話レッスンが家族で一緒に過ごす週末の一部になる。

何人かの生徒様が、似たようなことを言ってくれました：土曜日にレッスンがあると、週末の予定が立てやすいと。レッスン時間が固定で決まっているから、その日の予定はそこから組み立てられるし、レッスンを楽しみにしているという声もよく聞きます。

私としては、これは英語のレッスンについてだけというより、生活の話として聞いています。週末は放っておくと、なんとなく過ぎていってしまうものですよね。決まった予定がひとつあるだけで、一週間の終わり方が変わってくる。生徒様は英語を習いに来ていますが、そのレッスンによって残りの週末が変わります。

• 平日はフルタイムで働いていて、夜のレッスンが現実的に難しい方
• お子さんの部活や習い事で、平日の予定が頻繁に変わる方
• 週末にもっと長くまとまった時間を取りたい方
• 家族と一緒に通いたい方

Saturday English Lessons in Ikoma: Learning That Fits Around a Busy Week

I'm Les, the owner and teacher at Smith's School of English Ikoma. I've been teaching English in Ikoma City since 1998. Today I want to talk about our Saturday lessons.

Over the years, I've heard this so many times: "I'd love to study English, but my weekdays are impossible." Parents tell me something similar. Their kid's club schedule changes every single week, so there's no fixed weekday that actually works.

I get it. Weekday evenings are chaos for most people, work running late, dinner, homework, whatever else comes up. That's really the whole reason Saturday lessons exist. Students tend to walk in on Saturday already a little calmer than they'd be straight after a workday.

The classroom just feels different on Saturdays. Nobody's rushing in straight from work or school, so the whole room settles down a bit.

More importantly, Saturday's the day when it's easiest to get several students together at once. That works well for group lessons. When the room's full, the back-and-forth conversation just happens more naturally. Saturday works for the same reason for families learning English together. During the week, parents are stretched thin just handling pickups and drop-offs. On Saturday, whole families show up together and sometimes go grab lunch afterward.

Honestly, that's one of my favorite parts of Saturdays. The lesson becomes something the family does together on the weekend, instead of just another item squeezed into an already packed weekday.

A few students have told me some version of this: having the Saturday lesson gives their weekend some shape. The lesson sits at a fixed time, so everything else that day gets built around it, and more than one person has told me they actually look forward to it.

I take that more as a comment about life than about English. Left alone, a weekend just drifts by without much shape to it. Put one fixed appointment on the calendar and the end of the week feels different. Somehow, people came here to learn English and the lesson turned into the thing the rest of their weekend hangs on.

• Full-time workers who can't realistically make weekday evenings
• Kids and teens whose club schedules shift from week to week
• Anyone who'd rather have a longer, relaxed block of time on the weekend
• Families who want to come to lessons together

Saturday lessons run from the morning into the late afternoon, so there's usually something that fits your schedule. That said, spots are limited. If this sounds like you, it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later.
