私はレス、スミス英会話生駒校のオーナー講師です。1998年から生駒市で教えています。今日は英検（実用英語技能検定）についてお話しします。

英語学習は長い旅です。でも地図がなければ、自分がどこにいるか分かりません。英検はその地図の役割を果たしてくれます。
目標がないまま学ぶのは、ジムに通うのと似ています。毎日トレーニングしていても、記録を測らなければ成長を実感しにくい。英検は、自分の実力を外部の基準で確認できる、とても便利なツールです。語彙の勉強にもなりますし、次のレベルという具体的な目標ができます。

スミス英会話生駒校では、英検の筆記試験対策はしていません。読解や文法は学校や塾で十分にカバーされています。
私の専門は、3級以上で必要な面接試験の対策です。英検の面接は独特のフォーマットがあり、実際に英語で話す練習が必要です。ここに英語ネイティブ講師の強みがあります。
面接試験の形式は決まっているので、何回か練習すれば、生徒様はかなり慣れてきます。私は豊富な面接練習用の教材を持っていて、実際の試験と同じ形式で練習を行います。ただし、効果的な準備には2ヶ月ほど必要です。ですので、英検受験の予定がある方は、できるだけ早めに教えてください。2〜3ヶ月前にお知らせいただければ、英会話レッスンの中に面接練習を組み込むことができます。

これまでに多くの生駒校生徒様が英検に合格してきました。準1級に合格した方もいますし、2級、準2級に合格した方もたくさんいます。特に印象的だったのは、小学生の生徒様2名が2級に合格したことです。この2名はインターナショナル幼稚園に通っていた経験があり、幼い頃から英語環境に触れていました。

家族で英語を学ぶ環境がある家庭の子どもたちは、英検でも良い結果を出す傾向があります。日常的に英語に触れる文化が、テスト対策だけでは得られない基礎力を育てるのです。

Eiken Interview Preparation — The Advantage of Practicing with a Native Speaker

I'm Les, the owner and teacher at Smith's School of English Ikoma. I've been teaching in Ikoma City since 1998.

Today I want to talk about Eiken — Japan's most widely recognized English proficiency test.

Learning English is a long journey. But without a map, it's hard to know where you are. Eiken serves as that map.

Studying without a goal is a bit like going to the gym every day but never measuring your progress. You're putting in the work, but it's hard to feel the growth. Eiken gives you an external benchmark to check your real level. It ensures you study vocabulary, and it gives you a concrete target — the next grade level.

I'll be honest: I don't prepare students for the written portions of Eiken. Reading comprehension and grammar are well covered by schools and juku.

What I specialize in is the interview component, which is required for Grade 3 and above. The interview requires actually speaking English, and it has a specific format. This is where a native English teacher makes a real difference.

The interview format is standardized, so with a few practice sessions, students become quite comfortable. I have extensive interview practice materials, and we run through the interview just as it would happen on test day. However, effective preparation takes about two months. So if you're planning to take Eiken, please let me know as early as possible. With two to three months' notice, I can build interview practice into your regular lessons.

Over the years, many students have passed Eiken through my school. Some have achieved Pre-1, others Grade 2 and Pre-2. Perhaps the most impressive result was two elementary school girls who passed Grade 2. Both had attended an international kindergarten and had been immersed in English from a young age.

Children from families that learn English together tend to do well on Eiken too. A daily culture of English exposure builds a foundation that test preparation alone can't provide.

Eiken is a wonderful tool, but it's not the whole picture. In my lessons, I also develop real-world English ability through listening techniques that no test can fully measure. Why not aim for both — an Eiken certificate and the ability to actually use English?
