Every now and then I’m kindly invited to have dinner with my students and while I can’t accept all the time due to my responsibilities it’s nice when I’m able to sit down with them outside of the classroom. Luckily in December when my students invited me to join them to celebrate another friend’s birthday I was available and jumped at the chance. It turned out to be quite an event with 10 people. It was held at a local Indian restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We had a full course meal which included tandori chicken, various curries, nan and some dishes that I had never heard of before. As most of the attendees had studied abroad we alternated between English and Japanese and really had a good time. While we were waiting for dinner I took out my cards to practice card control (to improve my magic skill) and so a few people asked if I could show them a trick or two. While my students have seen a few of my tricks I am constantly learning more so I showed them a few that they hadn’t seen before and so they were as amazed as everyone else. Eating out with my students and their friends is always something I look forward to. I always have a good time and can’t wait to be invited again.
インド料理私は時々、生徒さんに食事に誘ってもらうことがあります。忙しいスケジュールのため、すべてに応じることはできませんが、学校以外の場所で、腰を落ち着かせて生徒さんと触れ合うのはよいものです。私はラッキーなことに１２月に生徒さんの友人の誕生日パーティーに誘われました。その日は授業がなかったので、嬉々として参加したところ、その夜はとても楽しい夜になりました。場所は近くのインド料理のレストランで、１０人ほどが集まりました。タンドリーチキンから、いろんなカレー、ナンや私が今まで見たこともない料理がだされ、メンバーも国際的な人たちばかりだったので、その夜は終始英語と日本語が飛び交いました。マジックが趣味である私は、トランプを持参し、トリックを披露しました。何人かの生徒さんはすでに私のマジックをみたことがありましたが、新しいトリックには皆驚いていたようです。生徒さんと食事を共にするのはとても楽しいことです。またこのような機会に恵まれることを楽しみにしています。
Ninnikuya
One night after class I invited my students to join me for dinner as my wife was away on business. The whole class accepted which was rather nice so we headed off to Ninnikuya which is a chain restaurant that uses garlic in practically everything it makes. I’m a big fan of the restaurant because of the fact that the portions are bigger than typical Japanese restaurants. The atmosphere is lovely and the prices are very reasonable and it’s located a stone’s throw away from Hirakata station. For nearly everyone besides myself it was their first time so I chose a few different dishes that I knew were good and let them select a few others. We laughed and chatted for the better part of two hours ? all in English and we had a ball!! With everyone’s schedule being so different sometimes it’s hard to be able to organize a big event but dinner with a few students is often doable and we always end up having a great time. It’s just nice to use English in a relaxed atmosphere outside of the classroom.
にんにくやある日、私は妻が仕事でいなかったので、生徒さんを食事に誘うことにしました。あるレッスンの生徒さん全員が参加してくれることになったので、料理のほとんどににんにくが入っているチェーン店のにんにくやに行きました。このレストランのメニューは典型的な日本料理のレストランよりも量が多く、私のお気に入りのお店のひとつです。さらには雰囲気もよく、値段も良心的で、枚方駅からすぐとお勧めです。私以外のメンバーはそのレストランが初めてだったので、私がおすすめメニューを何皿か頼み、生徒さんたちにも食べたいものを選んでもらいました。その夜は２時間ほど英語だけで楽しい会話がすすみました。スケジュールがみんな違うので、大きなイベントを企画するのは難しいものの、数人の生徒さんと食事にいくのは、比較的容易で、いつも充実した時間を過ごせます。教室以外のリラックスした場所で英語を使うのはよいことだと思います。
