Hi, my name is Derek, and I teach at Smith’s School of English in Tsukaguchi. One of my favorite ways to relax is by heading to a hidden gem in the neighborhood — the cozy Tsukaguchi Sun Sun Theater.

This small, independent cinema offers a peaceful, nostalgic atmosphere. I’ve even once had the whole place to myself! It’s a great escape from the busy multiplexes and a special part of life here in Tsukaguchi.

There’s also a great local perk: if you bring a receipt from the nearby McDonald’s, you get 300 yen off your movie ticket. It’s a fun little bonus I always take advantage of.

And of course, the caramel popcorn is a must. It’s fresh, sweet, and pairs perfectly with a good film.

Tsukaguchi Sun Sun Theater has been part of the Tsukaguchi community since the 1950s. They show a thoughtful mix of Japanese and international films — blockbusters, indie films, and even old classics.

Living and working in Tsukaguchi gives me moments like these. As a teacher at Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi, I feel connected to the local culture and proud to share what makes this neighborhood great.
