2012 Kansai Area Smith’s Hanami Event at Osaka Castle Park
２０１２年スミス英会話・関西地区の各校大阪城公園で“お花見”
I always look forward to the annual Kansai area Smith’s School of English hanami event at Osaka Castle Park in Osaka. In addition to enjoying picnicking under pretty cherry blossoms with Smith’s students and others, it’s a great chance to catch up with other Smith’s teachers who I don’t usually see. This year, it was held on April 8. Attendees included teachers from 7 Smith’s schools, Smith’s English conversation students, student family members and friends of Smith’s. A total of about 50 people attended. Wonderful! (^.^)
スミス英会話関西地区の各校が、大阪城公園で毎年共催している“お花見”をいつも楽しみにしています。 このイベントは私にとって、綺麗な桜の下で生徒さんやそのご家族と一緒に楽しくお花見ができるだけでなく、普段なかなか会えないスミス英会話各校の先生と会える良いチャンスでもあるのです。 今年のお花見は４月８日に開催されました。 協賛したのはスミス英会話の７つの学校の先生、生徒さん、生徒さんのご家族・お友達で、みんなで５０名の参加者を数えました。 やった！(^・^)
We had a nice sunny day and the temperature went up to I think at least 13 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. Yousaf (from Smith’s Senriyama) and I were at our preferred annual Smith’s hanami spot by 7:00 a.m. We laid 3 sheets down on the ground and pinned them to the ground with some metal pegs. I’d bought the sheets a few days before at a hardware store called Royal Home Center in Tsukaguchi and the pegs at the same place a few years before. I brought everything over to the park from my home in Tsukaguchi in a small suitcase with 2 little wheels. Once the sheets were in place, we guarded the spot until other teachers arrived in the late morning.
その日は晴天にも恵まれ、気温も午後には１３度ぐらいまで上がりました。 ユーサフ（スミス英会話・千里山校）と私は早朝７時までに会場入りしたので、毎年スミス英会話が取りたいと思っている絶好の花見スポットを押さえることができました。 私たちは、そこにシートを３枚敷いて金属製の留め釘で地面に固定しました。 このシートは、塚口にあるロイヤルホームセンターという店で私が数日前に調達したものでした。 留め釘も同じホームセンターで買ったのですが、もう何年か前のことです。 これら花見に使う道具類を２輪付きの小さなスーツケースに入れて、塚口の我が家から大阪城公園まで運びました。 一旦このシートを敷くと、私たち２人は他の先生が来るまで場所取りを続けました。
During the morning, we talked and I played some music on my iPad which my wife Akemi had kindly downloaded onto it for me. I walked over to a SEATTLE’S BEST coffee shop located in NHK Osaka Broadcasting Station Building near our hanami spot, bought some hot coffee and a Maple scone and enjoyed them at our hanami spot. Yousaf had a nap as he had gotten up quite early that morning. Our hanami spot was beside a walkway with lots of people passing. We saw some people walking and jogging for exercise. Some foreigners took photos of cherry blossoms at our hanami spot as the blossoms were pretty there. I talked to some who were from Taiwan in English and posed for photos with them. Before they left, one of them said I was welcome to Taiwan. How nice. While guarding our hanami spot, we were approached a few times by park staff patroling the park. We were asked if the 2 sheets next to the one we were sitting on were ours and told that we had better put something on them or they could be taken away, so I laid some Smith’s wear on them. We were also told that collecting money from people for hanami spots was not allowed. I guess that some people get hanami spots and sell spots to others. Of course we were not doing that so there was no problem. If was interesting, though! Wow! The staff really do a great job of managing the park during the busy hanami season period. I walked to a 7-11 convenience store not too far from our hanami spot and bought myself a box lunch bento and drink for lunch. I bought katsudon and a vegetable and fruit mix drink made by Kagome, both of which I like. Shortly before noon, I walked to JR Morinomiya Station with some other Smith’s teachers to meet Smith’s students and other guests coming to our hanami event at noon.
場所取りをしている間、私たちは話をしたり私のiPadで音楽を楽しんだりしました。 妻の明美が、この日のためにわざわざ何曲か選んでダウンロードしてくれたのです。 私は、花見会場からすぐ近くのＮＨＫ大阪放送会館の中にあるシアトルズ・ベスト・コーヒーまでホットコーヒーとメープル・スコーンを買い行き、それを持って帰って元の場所で楽しみました。 ユーサフはこの日、場所取りのために本当に朝早く起きたので、私が食べている間も横でうたた寝をしていました。(笑) 私たちの花見会場は公園内にある歩道のすぐ脇だったので、大勢の人たちが運動のために歩いたりジョギングをしたりして通り過ぎて行きました。 又そこは桜が本当に綺麗に見える場所だったので、何人かの外国人がその桜をカメラに収めようとシートに上がってきたりもしました。 その中に台湾から来た人たちがいて、私と英語で話をしたり私にも一緒に写真に入るようポーズを取らせたりしました。(笑) その人たちが帰るとき、中の１人が「どうぞ台湾にいらしてください」と言ってくれました。 わぁ感激！ 場所取りをしている間、公園を管理している人たちが何度か私たちの場所にやって来ました。 ３枚のシートの内の１枚に２人は座っていたのですが、その警備員さんは何も置いていない２枚のシートにも何か置いておいた方がいいと教えてくれました。 何も置いてないと撤去されることがあると聞いたので、私は早速スミス英会話のロゴ入りの服を座ってないシートの上に置きました。 また違う警備員さんは、あろうことか、私たちが押さえた花見会場を人に譲ってお金を取ってはダメですよと言ったのです。 花見会場を売ってお金儲けをしている人たちがいるなんてと驚きました。 勿論、私たちはそんなことはしないので大丈夫です。 でももし大丈夫じゃなかったら？わぁ～！ この公園の警備員さんたちは、こんなに混雑した花見シーズンも頑張ってるんだなぁと感心しました。 それからセブン・イレブンに自分のお弁当と飲み物を買いに行きましたが、このコンビニも私たちの花見会場からはそう遠くありませんでした。 そこでカツ丼と、カゴメの野菜と果物のミックスジュースを買いました。 両方とも大好きです。(笑) お昼少し前、約束の１２時に間に合うよう待合せ場所のＪＲ森之宮駅に他校の先生や生徒さん、また他の参加者を迎えに行きました。
The event started around 12:30 p.m. We enjoyed a picnic lunch and chatting under pretty cherry blossoms. My Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi group numbered 7 including 5 English conversation students from Amagasaki, 1 student’s husband and myself. This year my Japanese wife Akemi and daughter Tina (about 1 year 7 1/2 months old at the time) did not attend because Tina had a cold and some fever. We had a great time. When I left with the last two remaining people (students) at sometime after 4:00 p.m., most people had already left but a bit of people still remained. We walked through part of Osaka Castle Park on our way to JR Morinomiya Station. There were many cherry trees with many pretty cherry blossoms. My students and I parted in Umeda, Osaka. I wanted to buy some cake for my wife and daughter there for White Day (late, but better late than never). One of my students kindly suggested where to go (Hankyu Department Store) and made sure I knew the way there before we separated. Thank you again, Akira! I bought some cake and went back to my home in Tsukaguchi by train. Akemi and Tina were happy with the cake. Tina ate some right away! (^.^) What a wonderful I had!
お花見は１２時半ごろ始まりました。 みんなは綺麗な桜の花の下で、お弁当を食べながら楽しくお喋りをしました。 我が塚口校からの参加者は、英会話学校の生徒さんが５人、生徒さんのご主人、そして私の７人でした。 今年は妻の明美（日本人）と娘のティナ（このときは１才と７ヶ月半）は、娘が風邪を引き熱もあったので参加をひかえました。 お花見に来ていたみんなはとても楽しい一時を過ごしました。 ４時までに殆どの人は帰ったのですが、最後まで残っていた２人（生徒さん）と私は４時過ぎに一緒に帰ることにしました。 大阪城公園の中を抜けてＪＲ森之宮駅に向いましたが、道すがら綺麗な桜をまた楽しむことができました。 生徒さんと私は大阪・梅田まで一緒に行きそこでサヨナラをしました。 梅田で妻と娘にホワイトデー用のケーキ（お返しが遅れてしまっていました。でも、しないよりマシでしょ(笑)）を買いたかったのですが、２人の生徒さんの内の１人が別れ際に、何処で買ったらいいか（阪急百貨店）、またその行き方を私が知っているかなども聞いて親切に教えてくれました。 ＡＫＩＲＡさんホントにありがとう！ 私はケーキを買って、電車で塚口の我が家へと帰りました。 妻の明美と娘のティナは私の買って帰ったケーキをとても喜んでくれ、ティナはさっそく頬張っていました！(^・^) 買って帰ってよかったぁ！
