JR大津駅周辺でエドワード先生が特に気に入っているランチスポットを、当校に最も近い場所から順に紹介していきます。

ラーメンモリン
駅前１st森田ビル（当校のビル）1階にある老舗ラーメン店。
モリナガ氏が営む7席のお店では、煮干しベースのスープを使った様々なラーメンを提供されています。
豚骨ベースの定番ラーメンとは異なり、魚介ベースのモリンラーメンはほのかな甘みと香り高い味わいが特徴です。
営業時間は昼11:30～14:00、夜18:00～21:00（年中無休）。
大津を訪れるラーメン愛好家なら、ぜひ足を運んでみてください。

キッパーズケルシュ大津店
ドイツ風レストラン。様々なヨーロッパ料理とビールを提供。
エドワードが愛するフィッシュ＆チップスが、大津で唯一メニューにあるお店です。
キッパーズケルシュは一枚板の長いバーカウンターを備え、ダークウッドとレザーで上品に装飾されています。平日のランチ営業もありますが、主にディナーに利用されています。

丼丸
テイクアウトのみ。丼丸は当校のビルの入口前から階段を上り左手に曲がったところにある小さな穴場のテイクアウト店。基本メニュー84品に加え、スペシャル丼12品、日替わり丼もほぼ全て同価格で提供。通常丼は650円、シャリ大盛りは750円、ネタ大盛880円、特盛980円。常連のエドワード先生とチハル先生には店主が特製丼を用意しているほど！

そば處　やま喜
JR大津駅の向かい角にあるやま喜は、創業100年以上の老舗そば屋。そばやうどんに加え、寿司や焼き鰻も提供されています。価格は手頃で味は絶品！内装は昔と変わらず、まさに伝統的な日本の麺処そのもの。店員が店内で注文を呼び込み、店全体に伝統と活気が漂います。食事の最後には、店員が熱いそば湯を運んで来てくれます。これをつけ汁の器に注ぎ、スープのように飲むのが習慣です。

Edward’s Favourite Lunch Spots Near Smith Otsu

Working at Smith School of English Otsu is a lot of fun, but it really makes us coaches hungry since I'm using my ears, mouth, and brain so much. For teachers who want to enjoy lively lessons with their students, daily nourishment is essential.

Here are some of Edward’s favourite lunch spots around JR Otsu station, starting nearest to SSE Otsu and slowly moving away.

Ramen Morin

Classic ramen shop located on the first floor of Morita Bldg No.1 (location of SSE Otsu).

Mr Morinaga runs this 7-seat shop, serving a variety of ramen’s with niboshi (dried-fish) soup-base.

Unlike classic pork-based ramens, Morin’s ramen is fish-based which is slightly sweeter and aromatic.

Ramen Morin is open daily for lunch from 11:30 to 14:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00.

If you are a ramen lover visiting Otsu, this is the place for you.

Küppers Kölsch
German-style restaurant which serves a variety of European dishes and beers.
Edward loves Fish & Chips and this is the only place in Otsu with Fish & Chips on the menu.
Küppers Kölsch has a long bar made out of a single slab of wood and is decorated elegantly with dark wood and leather. Open for lunch weekdays but primarily used for dinner parties.

Don Maru
Take-out only. Don Maru is a little hole-in-the wall take-out shop just up the stairs and around the corner from SSE Otsu. They serve seafood bowls with a basic menu with 84 items, plus another dozen special bowls and a daily bowl and all for the same price. A regular bowl costs 650yen, large rice 750 yen, extra toppings 880 yen, large rice and extra toppings 980 yen. Edward and Chiharu eat here so often that the owners created a custom bowl just for them!

Yamaki Soba Shop
Located on the corner just across from JR Otsu station, Yamaki is an historic soba (buckwheat noodle) shop which has been around for over 100 years. They serve soba and udon, as well as sushi and grilled eel. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. The decor has not changed much and it looks exactly as you would expect a traditional Japanese noodle shop to look. The staff call out orders across the restaurant and there is an overall air of tradition and joy in the restaurant. At the end of your meal the staff bring you hot soba water which you can pour into your dipping sauce bowl and drink like a soup.

KWC Kyon World Curry
Kyon-chan has travelled, lived and studied in India and many other countries and she had brought her love of curry and various dishes with spices back to Otsu. KWC offers world-wide curry but with a twist, and that twist is hard to put your finger on though it is obvious. Lunch plates include a choice of 1 to 3 curries plus several side dishes all arranged around an Indian-style metal plate. The restaurant is quaint, located in an old machiya near the Otsu-eki mae shopping street.

Travailler à SSE Otsu est un travail difficile qui donne faim, et les enseignants de Smith ont besoin de se nourrir quotidiennement.
Voici quelques-uns des restaurants préférés d'Edward autour de la gare JR Otsu, en commençant par ceux les plus proches de SSE Otsu et en s'éloignant progressivement.

Ramen Morin
Restaurant de ramen classique situé au rez-de-chaussée du bâtiment Morita n° 1 (où se trouve SSE Otsu).
M. Morinaga tient ce restaurant de 7 couverts, qui sert une variété de ramen à base de soupe niboshi (poisson séché).
Contrairement aux ramen classiques à base de porc, ceux de Morin sont à base de poisson, ce qui leur confère un goût légèrement plus sucré et aromatique.
Ramen Morin est ouvert tous les jours pour le déjeuner de 11h30 à 14h00 et pour le dîner de 18h00 à 21h00.
Si vous êtes amateur de ramen et que vous visitez Otsu, cet endroit est fait pour vous.

Küppers Kölsch
Restaurant de style allemand qui sert une variété de plats européens et de bières.
Edward adore le fish & chips, et c'est le seul endroit à Otsu qui en propose au menu.
Kuppers Kolsch dispose d'un long bar fabriqué à partir d'une seule planche de bois et est décoré avec élégance avec du bois sombre et du cuir. Ouvert pour le déjeuner en semaine, mais principalement utilisé pour les dîners.

Don Maru
Plats à emporter uniquement. Don Maru est un petit restaurant à emporter situé juste en haut des escaliers et au coin de SSE Otsu. Il sert des bols de fruits de mer avec un menu de base comprenant 84 plats, plus une douzaine de bols spéciaux et un bol du jour, tous au même prix. Un bol standard coûte 590 yens, un bol grand format coûte 100 yens de plus, et les garnitures supplémentaires coûtent 200 yens de plus. Edward mange si souvent ici que les propriétaires ont créé un bol spécialement pour lui !

Yamaki Soba Shop
Situé au coin de la rue, juste en face de la gare JR Otsu, Yamaki est un restaurant de soba (nouilles de sarrasin) historique qui existe depuis plus de 100 ans. On y sert des soba et des udon, ainsi que des sushis et de l'anguille grillée. Les prix sont raisonnables et la nourriture est délicieuse. La décoration n'a pas beaucoup changé et correspond exactement à ce que l'on attend d'un restaurant de nouilles japonais traditionnel. Le personnel annonce les commandes à voix haute et il règne dans le restaurant une atmosphère traditionnelle et joyeuse. À la fin du repas, le personnel vous apporte de l'eau chaude pour les soba que vous pouvez verser dans votre bol de sauce et boire comme une soupe.

KWC Kyon World Curry

Kyon-chan a voyagé, vécu et étudié en Inde, et elle a ramené son amour pour la cuisine indienne à Otsu. KWC propose une cuisine indienne avec une touche originale, difficile à définir mais pourtant évidente. Les assiettes du déjeuner comprennent un choix de 1 ou 2 currys ainsi que plusieurs accompagnements, le tout disposé autour d'une assiette en métal de style indien. Le restaurant est pittoresque, situé dans une ancienne machiya près de la rue commerçante Otsu-eki mae.
