長く通う生徒様
現在スミス英会話甲東園校に通う生徒様の半分以上は８年以上通っています。そのうち２名はオープンした年、２００３年からです。語学スクールは良いレッスンを提供することができますが、このような愛着を持ってくれるかはわかりません。これは１レッスンずつ、少しずつ得られたもので、講師としてこれ以上の賛辞はありません。生徒様に何年も教えるということは、英語に対する自信の成長を見てきており、またそれを当然のことだとは思いません。

甲東園校の生徒様には仲がいいグループが3つあり、定期的にクラスの外で集まって会を開いています。それぞれのグループには個性があって、それぞれのリズムや友情があります。スミス英会話甲東園校が勉強するためだけに来る場所ではなく、生徒様が一緒に時間を過ごしたいと思える場所になっていることがとても嬉しいです。

2024年、甲東園校の入る建物の外装のリフォームがありました。小さなことですが、この20年で初めてで、スクールが新しくなった姿を見られて嬉しいです。それが何であっても、次のステップへの準備ができたようです。私も同じです。

Students Who Stay
More than half of our current students have been with us for eight years or longer. Two of them have been here since the very first year, 2003. A language school can offer good lessons, but you can't ask for that kind of loyalty. It's earned slowly, one class at a time, and it's the best compliment a teacher can receive. Teaching people for years means watching them grow in confidence, and I never take that for granted.
Friendships Beyond the Lesson
Three completely separate groups of students get together regularly for parties of their own outside of class. Each group has its own personality, its own rhythm, and its own friendships. I love that the school has become a place where people want to spend time together, not only a place where they come to study.
Part of the Neighbourhood
Being a member of Smith's also means being a member of Kōtōen. Several local small businesses work with us on shared advertising, and I like that very much. Neighbours helping neighbours is how a community stays healthy, and it's a good reminder that a small school is never really working alone.
A Fresh Face for the Next Chapter
In 2024, the building received an exterior renovation. It's a small thing, but after more than twenty years, I enjoyed seeing the school get a fresh face. It looks ready for whatever comes next, and so am I.
Why Smith's Feels Like Home
Smith's lets me run our branch as a personal, local school, rooted in Kōtōen and in the lives of the people who come through the door. I've been in Japan since 1996 and teaching here since 2003, and I can honestly say that the best part of the job is the relationships. They are why so many students stay, and why I do too.
