カスタマイズドール、「スーパードルフィー」そもそもがガレージキットメーカーであるボークスの商品であるため、発売当初は模型雑誌に広告が打たれ、カスタマイズ方法が掲載されるなど、人形というよりはフィギュアに近い扱いがされており、販売数・生産数ともに少なく、受注生産に近い形で販売された。
着せ替えやウィッグの交換など、さまざまな「カスタマイズ」を楽しめる。
初めて女性をメインターゲットにした商品であり、ボークスのビジネスに大きな変化をもたらした。塗装を「メイク」、バリ取りやパーティングライン消しを「エステ」と読み替えて推奨したり、サービス化した広報上の工夫もこの製品の特徴の一つである。

Al:
Hey Mai, do you know about the ball-jointed dolls? They’re getting popular among adults!

Mai:
No kidding!? I used to play with Barbie dolls when I was a kid.

Al:
It’s not like a Barbie! These dolls are poseable and completely customizable! You can change their eyes, hands and even their expression.

Mai:
Change expression!? That’s amazing! So, you can make your own doll using your imagination, right?

Al:
That’s right. I’ve heard that the doll maker “Volks” will hold a doll party in August in Osaka. You can get limited edition dolls, clothes or whatever if you attend. They call these parties “Dolpa”.

Mai:
Wow. I didn’t know that these dolls were so popular! What else can you do in that event?

Al:
According to article I read, you can photograph your doll on various sets and you can try out new clothes on your doll.

Mai:
Wow. they must be great events for doll fans! So do you wanna go to that event in Osaka?

Al:
mmmm, I don’t think so. It seems like something for OTAKU or geeks.

Mai:
Oh, it still might be fun to go though, if only to see what kind of people will spend 60,000 Yen for a doll.

Al:
That’s true, let’s go!
