沖縄・宮古島旅行 三日目 2016

沖縄宮古島旅行 、最高のお天気の3日目は、島内をドライブして宮古島の北にある砂山ビーチと南東にある新城海岸へ行くことにしました。泊まっていたホテルから砂山ビーチまで約35分、午前11時にはビーチに到着。駐車場から3分くらいでビーチに向かう道へ。砂山は英語で言うと “Sand Mountain”ですが、ここに来ればなぜこのビーチがそう呼ばれるかがわかると思います。

ビーチに向かって道を進むと、砂で埋め尽くされた急斜面。その斜面を下っていけば、見たこともない素晴らしいビーチが！このビーチには有名な岩があって、波で削られてアーチ状になった独特の形をしています。海岸には真っ白い砂浜が青い海に向かって広がっていました。ここでのシュノーケリングも楽しかったけど、前日の来間島でのシュノーケリングの方がよかったですね。

砂山ビーチを後にして東海岸にそってドライブ。次に訪れたのは新城海岸です。景色は本当に最高でした！長く続く海岸はとってもきれいでした。フレンドリーなスタッフが経営する海の家が３、4件あって、ビーチのテーブルに座ってタコライスと島で飼育された牛を使った宮古島ビーフカレーを注文。どちらも安くて美味しかったです。

宮古島で一番のシュノーケリングスポットがこの海岸だと聞いて行ったのですが、本当に期待を裏切らないビーチでした。サンゴは、島のどこよりも美しくて健やかで、浅瀬でもたくさんの熱帯魚を見ることができます。食べたり、ちょっと泳いだり、ゆっくりとした時間を過ごしたい人は行ってみる価値のあるビーチです。新城海岸から車で海岸沿いを走り、来間橋ではサンセットに間に合いました。

その夜は小肥羊という薬膳火鍋のお店で夕食をいただきました。何というか、今まで食べたことのない不思議な味でした。羊と強い薬膳の混ざり合った味が、一口食べるごとに変化する感じ。体には良いのかもしれないけど、お薦めはしないかな。

On Day 3 we woke up to a stunningly beautiful day. We planned to drive around the island and stop by 2 beaches: Sunayama Beach in the north of Miyakojima and Aragusuku Beach on the southeast coast.

The drive from our hotel to Sunayama Beach took about 35 minutes, and we arrived at about 11:00 am. When you arrive, there is a parking lot where you park your car and then it’s about a 3 minute walk to the beach.  “Sunayama” translates into English as “Sand Mountain”. When you arrive it becomes very clear why it has this name. 

As you approach from the top, you walk down this massive hill covered in sand down to the beach. Once getting to the bottom the beach opens up to one of the most spectacular beaches you will ever see! This beach is famous for a rock formation with a hole carved out by the waves. I must say, it really does give a bit of unique character to the beach.  The beach itself is pure white fine course sand that leads out to a brilliant blue-green ocean.  We did some snorkeling, which was good but not as good as the snorkling at Takokoen Park on Kurima Island the day before.

The next stop on our tour was at Aragasuku Beach, so we left Sunayama Beach and drove along the east coast of Miyakojima.  The views of the sea were absolutely beautiful! The beach at Aragasuku was very long and beautiful.  There are three or four beach hut restaurants set up with very friendly staff running them.  We got a table on the beach and bought taco-rice and Miyakojima beef curry, which is made with beef raised locally on the island.  Both of the dishes were excellent and very reasonably priced.

The reason we came to this beach was that we were told the best snorkling around Miyakojima was Aragasuku.  We were not disappointed.  The corals here have the best color and are in the best health of any on the island.  There are plenty of tropical fish to see at not too deep depths.  This beach is worth the effort to get to if you just want to relax, eat and swim a bit.

We left Aragasuku Beach and continued driving along the coast until we got to Kurima Bridge just in time to catch the sunset. Very nice.

Dinner that night was at a Chinese herbal hot pot restaurant called Xiao Fei Yang.  I must say, that was the strangest tasting dish I have ever eaten.  It’s a confused taste of lamb and very strong tasting herbs and every mouthful has a different taste. It may be healthy but I would not recommend it for dinner.
