Dear students,

The Smith’s School of English 2009 Barbecue Event last Sunday was a great success! Thank you again to all the people who joined!

Below are 2 stories about the barbecue event with questions.  It is based on The Japan Sea.  The first version is easier. The second version is more difficult. You can choose the version that you like and answer the questions.  I will give the answers to all  questions here next week.  If you have any questions, you can ask me in class.  Enjoy!

Smith’s School of English 2009 Barbecue Event

Version 1

Last weekend I had an appointment to go to a Smith’s School of English barbecue event with some students. We met at Hankyu Tsukaguchi Station and got into students’ cars. The drivers’ names were Yoshihisa and Fumiko. We drove to Al’s house in Ikeda for about 30 minutes and arrived at about 1:30pm. We ate meat, vegetables, seafood, Japanese food and cake. I ate 2 pieces of cake!  We drank tea, coffee, soft drinks or alcoholic beverages. I drank 2 cups of soft drinks and a cup of hot coffee. I served hot coffee and talked with people. Some people sang karaoke songs or played games in English.  Everybody had a good time! I left Al’s house at about 7:30pm and went back home by car.

 Version 2

Last weekend I had an appointment to go to a Smith’s School of English barbecue event with some students. We met at Hankyu Tsukaguchi Station outside the south exit and got into students’ cars.  The drivers’ names were Yoshihisa and Fumiko. We drove safely to Al’s house in Ikeda for about 30 minutes, chatting happily along the way until we arrived at his house at about 1:30pm. We parked the cars and went into his house. It was a very nice house. On the first floor, there was a living room, dining room, kitchen, etc. Outside the living room was a very nice sunroom which opened up onto a cute little yard with nice  grass.  There were 3 barbecue grills nearby on which some things were cooked. The meat had been marinated beforehand. We ate meat, vegetables, seafood, Japanese food and cake. I ate  2 pieces of cake!  I had bought the cake at COSTCO that very morning.  Everything was delicious! We drank tea, coffee, soft drinks or alcoholic beverages. I drank 2 cups of soft drinks and a cup of hot coffee with cream and sugar. I served hot coffee and talked with people. Some people sang karaoke songs or played games in English.  Everybody had a good time! I left Al’s house at about 7:30pm by car. I was driven home by Yoshihisa.
